It started in 2006 and the gypsy guitar festival dedicated to the music heritage that began with Django Reinhardt keeps on keeping on at the Brisbane Jazz Club.
I’m in the midst of it now.
The festival was created by Ewan Mackenzie, the late great Brisbane guitarist after he git inspired at a gig I did at the club with brother Ian.
It’s been a mecca of sorts for Australian and NZ guitarists to come and share in the love, mystery and science of how to play the music and the fun times that inevitably ensue.
Previous guest artists have included Robin Nolan, Lulo Reinhardt, Hank Marvin and this year Lollo Meier.
Before Ewan sadly died he passed the torch in to my Gadjo Guitars buddy Cameron Jones. Brother Ian carries on as Festival Patron.
If you have a love for guitar (and violins, double bass, accordion, brass, woodwind, singers) you should look into coming to Brisbane for Oz Manouche.
