The Mistachios is a guitar trio featuring Nigel Date, Cameron Ford and Francis Diatschenko. It is truly a national band. Cameron is based in Brisbane, Francis in Darwin and Nigel in Sydney. Their music is firmly rooted in the music of the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt but also with Flamenco, Brazilian music, jazz, blues and other latin styles.
They’ve performed many times at Australia’s premier gypsy guitar festival ‘Oz Manouche’. When they perform, there’s been nothing but laughs and incredible music.
The three guitarists are renowned expert players.
Cameron is one of Australia’s finest flamenco guitarists. He’s also a killer electric player, latin master and gypsy jazz shredder. Cameron spent years in Spain perfecting his craft. A great bass player and drummer as well, Cam is a prolific composer and performer. In 2019 he’ll be performing solo guitar with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. He’s played for many years throughout Australia, Asia and into Europe.
Francis is masterful classical, flamenco, jazz, rock, country and everything else you can think of guitarist. Francis toured the world with indigenous music icon Gurrumul Yunupingu and played alongside Missy Higgins, John Butler and Delta Goodrem. He’s played for and met the Queen! Francis is a great singer as well and works throughout the world leading everything from big bands on cruise ships to fronting his own progressive rock trio The Sheikhs.
Nigel has played with and in many bands in his career as a professional musician. He’s toured extensively appearing at major jazz and music festivals. Nigel writes and records a lot of his own music and gets asked to participate in plenty of projects. He’s performed and/or recorded with many of the greats of Australian music including Tommy Emmanuel, James Morrison, Bob Barnard and his brother Irish based guitar maestro Ian Date.
The Mistachios band is a high energy, fun, guitar fireworks show. They play beautiful acoustic guitars and care immensely about the quality of sound and presentation. They have a massive diverse repertoire of songs and tunes going back literally centuries.
